Getting crafty again!

I must be in the "nesting" stage, because my list of things to do is about 40 items long. Yikes!! Among cleaning and other things, there were a lot of little decorating things and craft items on the list! Here are some pictures of what crafty things we've been working on here at the Frost house... we were trying to decorate on a budget, so I'll be telling you a little bit about that along the way. :)

I found a huge stack of scrapbooking paper that I liked at Michael's and used it on lots of crafts for this room. We recovered the 3 square mirrors with the paper, cut out 10"x10" squares of foam board and covered those-- then added letters for her name.

Here's a picture with the cute bows and bow hanger that my friend, Lynn, gave to our little girl! I love it. And the little yellow birdie up top was $3 from Michaels, too. I just couldn't resist!

Katelyn LaRae Frost will be her full name...

This wall: I made an apple and pear out of different papers, then framed them in these garage sale frames!! I also re-covered this dollar store "Sweet Pea" sign with some coordinating paper and added another little birdie, and then re-covered the small square name to match (we'll put in a picture once she's born).

I also painted this shelf from DI to match the room! It was a bit daring to go so PINK, but I think it all worked out! I painted it all country white so I could distress it later, then added pink over the top, and then I drew the cherry blossom branch and birdie. I'm not sure if I would buy it at a store, but I love it because it's something I made special for this baby girl...

And to top it all off: Allen's mom is making a quilt for Katelyn-- it's going to have a cherry blossom theme! I'm so excited to see it... Katelyn will LOVE to have such a special blanket one day!

We also decided that Benson's room needed some attention, so we hung up some fun "balls" or Chinese lanterns and put up letters for his name, too! {You can see the quilt that grandma made for Benson when he was born... she's really, really talented and does everything by hand, practically!}

And lastly... here's a little canvas that I started for our house. I'll probably end up putting it in our room or bathroom, but it's not finished yet! The letters need to be painted again but there's something else missing. Any ideas on what I should do to it now?? I feel like it needs something...

I did it!

I've been talking about it forever... I've had the fabric for months... and I finally made this cute little skirt!

Lucky for Benson, he was already asleep {or else he would have been our little "bunny" model... haha!}.

I can't wait to see this on our little baby girl!! I'm hoping it's the size I think it is... 3-6 months... but I had to make up the pattern on my own, so I'm not so sure if I did all the measurements right. We'll know better here in a few months. Plus, she may be a skinny, lean kid like Benson or she may take after her mom a bit more. :) Haha!

Good news from the doctor!

Looks like it's almost time for baby!! :)

The doctor appointment today was a WONDERFUL one! Yea! I am 2 cm and 50% effaced. I told him how incredibly uncomfortable/painful this baby girl is sometimes... to the point of making me want to cry because she is so, so, so tight!! ... and I think that may be part of the reason he told me this:

"I'll see you in one week, unless you have this baby on your own before then. ... And if you're interested in being induced, then we could schedule that at your next appointment. We'd probably induce you on July 13th or 14th."

HELLO!!?? This is AMAZING news! I am officially "due" on July 17th, and I have been planning for July 24th just because that's how it was with Benson... induced 1 week later... but earlier?? Oh. What a relief! I am super excited to know that the end is definitely in sight. We will for sure be having a baby 2 weeks from today. Woo-hoo!

{And don't worry... I did double-check with the doctor to remind him that those dates are actually BEFORE I am due, and he said that all signs show "favorable" for inducing a few days earlier rather than later, so I am in no way cheating the system. Yea!}

We will be keeping busy until then, and who knows? Maybe I will go into labor on my own. I have been having contractions, so that's different than my experience with Benson {he was ready to just camp out inside my belly for another month or two}. Just wanted to keep you updated!!

~ ~ ~
On to a little question for you:

What would you bring to the hospital to keep yourself distracted? I am going to be packing things for the hospital soon, and I just DO NOT remember what I need to bring! So any tips you have on a good book or movie, or what essentials that I need to bring for the hospital stay and for baby's return home... please divulge!

This is amazing.

Anyone looking for a budgeting solution? Have you heard of Dave Ramsey? If you have or haven't, this spreadsheet is worth looking at. It was made up by a guy who modeled it after Dave Ramsey's budgeting theory. We love excel and how nice it is to have the formulas automatically calculate everything for you. The spreadsheet may be a bit tricky at first, but once you figure out how to enter the estimated amounts on the first sheet, then the actual amounts in the correct column on the second sheet, it's AMAZING!! So, the first link (below) is for the article and the second link is for you to download it directly from here if you want to. :) Have fun budgeting!!

Our little baby girl...

So, you know how there are a zillion baby names out there?? Yeah. Well, it makes it a little difficult to decide on just 1 that is supposed to fit this baby just right. Especially considering that you:

A - have never officially met this child. You know they're going to be so cute and you'll love every bit and piece of them, but that doesn't mean you know their personality or characteristics that define them!!
...and...
B - well, I pretty much just went off and explained all my feelings in the first bullet point. :o)

My dilemma in all of this is that this baby girl is going to be here in a little over a month, or so I hope. Who knows if she'll be a diva and decide to show up late {on her own time schedule} like little Bensonito did... but whenever she does get here, I want her to have a name!!

We're down to some "final" names, but I was just thinking I would post here to get some help. If you have ANY suggestions on girl names that you like, let me know!! Maybe we haven't thought of that one yet and it just clicks. So please-- if you have baby girl names to throw out there I'd love to hear 'em!

Just a thought...

Each morning I get a "Daily Gems" email from LDS.org with a thought or quote, etc. Today's was very simple, but I liked it so much that I wanted to share it on here.

{Sidenote: I know we've been completely out of the blogging loop for a while now. Since we just got internet and are still settling in, I will have to do a fun update later... but it will come. Not that you're waiting in suspense or anything, but I like to think that my friends are somewhat interested in what's going on. :) So once I get in the groove, I'll put up some pics and stuff. And please don't mind all the extra quotation marks. It wasn't worth fixing for me.}

DAILY GEMS - May 20, 2009

Children Helping Mothers

Posted: 20 May 2009 12:00 AM PDT

"What can children, even young children, do [to help their mothers]? Now, you children, please listen to me because there are some simple things you can do to help your mother. "You can pick up your toys when you are finished playing with them, and when you get a little older, you can make your bed, help with the dishes, and do other chores—without being asked. "You can say thank you more often when you finish a nice meal, when a story is read to you at bedtime, or when clean clothes are put in your drawers. "Most of all, you can put your arms around your mother often and tell her you love her."

Role of Husbands in Child Rearing

Posted: 19 May 2009 12:00 AM PDT

"What more can a husband do to support his wife, the mother of their children? First, show extra appreciation and give more validation for what your wife does every day. Notice things and say thank you—often. Schedule some evenings together, just the two of you. "Second, have a regular time to talk with your wife about each child's needs and what you can do to help. "Third, give your wife a 'day away' now and then. Just take over the household and give your wife a break from her daily responsibilities. Taking over for a while will greatly enhance your appreciation of what your wife does. . . . "Fourth, come home from work and take an active role with your family. Don't put work, friends, or sports ahead of listening to, playing with, and teaching your children."

We got it!!

Yea! Good news today... we got the townhouse we were hoping for! I know it's a huge blessing how it all worked out, and Heavenly Father really is looking out for us. Wow. It's just around the corner from Bicentennial Park in south Provo, so you'll have to come and play with us! Details for exactly when we can move in are still in the works, but WE HAVE A PLACE!! I am so so glad to be done with looking for a place to rent. :)

Allen goes in bright and early Friday for his surgery. I think he's a bit nervous about it, of course, but it will be so great to have his knee fixed and back on the road to full recovery. His internship will start soon, which is another huge blessing in itself, and we're just excited for summer to officially be rolling in.

Earlier this week, we went up to the Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake. That was a lot of fun for us! Allen probably got the most excited out of all of us (which was a surprise... bc Benson loves animals and I'm kind of a nerd about aquariums and zoos). He saw the tiger and was in awe. :) He booked it ahead of us to get a closer look and kept saying how HUGE it was! Haha. It was pretty cool. We're hoping to make it to the petting zoo thing at Thanksgiving Point this summer, too.

Well, I'm probably needing to go and get some sleep. If any of you are looking for Mother's Day ideas, there's a book called, "I Am a Mother" that my friend, Lynn, gave to me. I think it's an empowering book for women, and I think your mom would love to get a special something from you this year! :)

Suspense!!

We are waiting to hear about a home that we like and are interested in renting out... the property management place told us yesterday that they would make a decision today and let us know. Well, it's a little past their closing time so that didn't happen. :) Anyway... meanwhile, we found an AMAZING townhome that we really, really like. Wow. We talked with the owner today and he seems very nice and personable, so that's a huge plus! We've got to fill out an application and talk with him some more tomorrow, so let's cross our fingers! It's really close to Bicentennial park in south Provo, so we'd have to set up playdates with the friends in this ward that we'll be leaving!

Another thing keeping us in suspense is Allen's surgery. The surgeon's office called today and said the doctor needs to postpone the surgery to Friday because of a family emergency. We really like this doctor and hope everything is okay. I'm kind of thinking that a few more days of packing & playing will be GREAT!! It's probably a blessing in disguise, though we're a bit nervous about Allen having less recovery time before he's supposed to be at work in Lehi. It will all work out!! I'm just so glad that he'll be able to get this surgery done.

On to some fun things... we're getting excited for this baby girl! I'm trying to get my hands on a cricut cartridge called "home accents solutions." Does anyone have this that I could borrow?? Or do you know someone who might?? I am trying to bid low on ebay to see if I can snag one. They're adorable! I'm wanting to cut out a bunch of vinyl things for her room. We'll see! The theme we're doing is "cherry blossoms" and so my mother-in-law (who makes amazing quilts) is putting together a cherry blossom tree quilt... and then I'm going to decorate with other cherry blossoms and modern prints (like the fun shapes, little sparrows, etc). It should be fun!

We went to the zoo yesterday in SLC. It was fun!! Benson liked seeing the animals and running around the park. He got so tired! We've been out in the beautiful weather a ton, and I think the sun really wears him out. He's getting so big I can hardly believe it.

One thing I want to do is make a baby dress!! Isn't that fun? I'm going to try my hand at sewing a baby dress, I think... here are some pics of what I like. If you have any neat patterns or experience with this you should definitely let me know!

Welcome, warm weather! Please stop and stay a while.

Today was GORGEOUS weather! We had fun going to the park, hauling rocks over to our neighbor's house, and playing in the water while hosing off some mud. I love this weather, but I hear that... we have SNOW in the forecast! Are you kidding me?? Come on! Let's just be done with it, alright? Enough snow. Enough cold. Bring on the sun!! I can't get enough of this warm weather.

One thing I can't believe is that another semester is coming to a close! Yea!!! Even though I'm not in school anymore, I feel like I am because Allen is. :) Many of you can relate, I know. Once he finishes the semester, he just has an internship this summer in Lehi {with a 3rd party logistics company... pretty sure that's what it's called} and then ONE MORE SEMESTER!!! Woo-hoo! That means we'll finish things up in December and be on our way to wherever we find a job {hopefully in the Caribbean... jk... hopefully in the Phoenix/Mesa area}. He might go back and get his MBA, but I'm pretty sure we're sticking with our "graduate and find a job" plan... even with the scary economy/recession right now.

We did find a place to stay. Yea! It's going to be great. It's not exactly what we were looking for, but we feel really good about it. I want to have fun fixing it all up. If I do that, then I'll have to post pics of everything and get some tips on decorating, adding more counterspace to a kitchen without much of it, etc. :)

Allen is getting surgery on his knee {I don't remember if I ever announced that on here or not... that's the verdict: surgery}. He'll be going in a week from Wednesday {April 22, 2009} for an ACL repair. He tore his ACL and MCL, but they aren't going to do surgery on the MCL. So... this should be an exciting month!! School ending, finals finished {hopefully by this weekend!!}, ACL surgery, moving to a new place, 3 year anniversary, and starting a new internship! Wish us luck!

That's the scoop on everything... I'll post some fun pics soon. **PS: We finally found a camera that we LOVE!! I am so excited. It's been great, so thanks Rachel for the recommendation!!! I'll put up some pics from our camera so you can see why I love it. :)

Well, I'd better scurry off to bed because I am zonked! Goodnight!

About a boy...

This is about a boy I love. His name is Allen. He's my best friend and my husband {how convenient!!}. Sometimes I stop and think, "Wow. I am one lucky woman." Today, instead of just thinking it, I wanted to say it. Thanks, babe, for making me feel like the luckiest woman in the world. You spoil me. You flatter me. You make me laugh. You stop me from crying incessantly. You are the best father to the best son {probably one of my very favorite things to witness on a daily basis}.

We started getting to know each other that one night while sitting on a tree log around the campfire almost 8 years ago... and now we've been married for almost 3 {amazing} years... and I just can't wait to see what's in store for us in the years to come.

Thanks for taking care of us. I love you.

What's been going on...

I thought I'd do a mini-update on what's been going on in our lives. Of course, I'll have to add some fun pictures at the end!! :)

First off, I am glad to say that I have discovered why my bread endeavors have NOT been working out in my favor! My bread yeast is bad. Yes, B-A-D. Expired. Done. So, that wheat bread that I tried making and failed at... not my fault. The dough that I mixed up today and have been patiently waiting on to "double in size"... probably not gonna happen. So I'm off to the store later to pick up a few items on my list. Yeast will be one of them. And here's a tip for other bread beginners like myself: you need to store a big, opened package of yeast in the freezer (not on the shelf, even if it's in a ziplok). It is a relief to know that I am not necessarily the entire problem with my bread mishaps. Now I think I'll try making bread again instead of always relying on Rhodes. Yea!

Next-- and this is definitely more exciting-- we have an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon on Monday to see what's going on with Allen's knee. Some of you know that he injured his knee a little over a week ago playing basketball. He was driving in for a layup and planted on some other guy's foot (uneven surface) when he jumped. He heard and felt a pop and instantly fell to the ground. I was watching and figured he had probably just rolled his ankle and that's why he fell, but then he was yelling and still lying on the ground, and was holding on to his knee and hitting the floor with his hand. We knew it wasn't good. Now he's had an x-ray and an MRI, so we'll see what those results are soon. It could be a torn ligament, which Allen is trying to just expect so he takes the news of "surgery" and "8-12 month recovery" well, but it could just be a sprain or an injury that won't require surgery. We'll see.

Meanwhile, we're looking for housing! Yikes!! Still on the hunt. We'd love a home with a fenced in yard, and we'd love to stay in the same area we're at if we can. There was a place we LOVED but it just fell through (sad), so we're back at it again... checking Craigslist and BYU housing and KSL many, many times a day. Thanks for the leads and tips of signs you've seen posted around "for rent" in the area. I really, really appreciate it!

Benson is just hilarious. He's learned that the baby is in the belly, but he doesn't quite get that it's in MOM'S belly. Sometimes he'll pat my belly, sometimes his... just depends. But he is really learning a lot, so I hope he'll understand what this all means pretty soon. :) I'm feeling pretty good, but my body feels a lot different this time. There are a lot more growing pains early on, and I swear that I'm growing bigger faster (which is never really easy on a girl's mentality-- let's be honest). But I really know it's a wonderful blessing to have this baby girl on the way. And maybe we'll be able to pick out a name before she's born. We'll see. :) Any ideas??

Some fun things about Benson... he's a huge fan of going outside. These last few days of snow/cold weather have big a big letdown for him, so I'm glad to see the sun shining today! He loves to dance, and he especially loves watching himself dance in the mirror. When he runs, he sticks his left arm out at a 45 degree angle and swings it (but the right one doesn't do that... it's pretty funny). He likes to draw, and he's having a hard time listening to Mom and resisting the tempation to write on things other than paper. I've already scrubbed the cover of one book, and I'm sure it won't be the last. :) He's discovered sidewalk chalk, and how Dad laughs when Benson steals his shoes, and how he can just play nicely with his toys before bed and that usually buys him some extra time before he actually has to go to sleep. (Or, he'll just keep getting more books to read before bedtime to delay a bit...)

I finally finished Benson's blanket (a rag quilt) and am starting to think of ideas for baby girl's blanket. I've also started on headbands and bows, which is a lot of fun! It's kind of surreal to me that our baby is going to be a girl. I keep thinking that we'll be in the hospital and then the doctor will tell us congrats on the baby boy. :) We will love this little baby. That's for sure.

Well, I guess that's about it for our little update. Enjoy the pics and have a great weekend!!

I liked this a lot... EP: this is for you. :)

Okay, so I saw this on Alysa's blog a while ago (she used to be in our ward, and her link is on the right hand side when you scroll down...) and ran into it again today. It gave me a good laugh, and I thought that some of you would enjoy it, too! This is, and I quote, her "parody of Beyonce's 'All the Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).'"

All the married ladies (yeah with little babies)
All the mommy ladies (all the mommy ladies)
All the mommy ladies (yeah with little babies)
All the married ladies throw your hands up (up)

Everybody notice me.

I'm gonna spill (spill)
Yeah that's the drill (drill)
Y'know that's how it's gonna be.

Cuz if you like it then you shoulda put a bib on it,

Some Sunday Sunshine

Allen and I get to teach together in gospel doctrine a couple times a month. Today we had a chance to teach on missionary work. Honestly, it was a very fun lesson for me. I always love the interactions and discussions-- the input and stories-- from other couples in our ward. Seriously, we've never felt so connected to the people we go to church with each week. I was thinking recently about the media and how it can be frustrating to see things that are meaningful and sacred to us misinterpreted or scandalously thrown out into the public eye. {I'm sure you know why... if your feathers were ruffled by the news of the "Big Love" episode airing, then you should take a look at the LDS Newsroom article released as a response to this event. It's called "The Publicity Dilemma" and you can link to it here.} What I was reminded by reading this article is that the best thing we can do is remember that the work of the Lord will continue to move on. It's not necessary or even desirable to get caught up in these things. It's better or "best" to focus on the good news this gospel brings, the lives that the spirit can touch, and how we can contribute personally to sharing the message of the restored gospel with all of God's children on earth.

This video on temple work is one of many videos that the Church has compiled and made available on YouTube. (Link to MormonMessages on YouTube.) I love that there are a whole variety of scholars and religious leaders that speak of the Mormon temples and their significance, and how these temples are in line with what the bible teaches. We want to share that video with you. Hope you enjoy watching it, and happy Sunday!
